LIZZIE The Musical
7:00 PM | OCTOBER 27 - 30, 2025
Rage! Betrayal! Bloody murder!
In the stifling heat of late summer 1892, the quiet town of Fall River, Massachusetts, is rocked by a brutal double homicide. Andrew Borden, a wealthy and notoriously frugal businessman, and his second wife, Abby, are found violently murdered in their home. Suspicion quickly falls on Andrew’s youngest daughter from his first marriage — Lizzie Borden, a seemingly demure Sunday school teacher with a sharp tongue and a simmering inner life.
What unfolds is a chilling and provocative retelling of one of America’s most infamous murder cases. Set against a backdrop of repression, privilege, and patriarchy, LIZZIE reimagines the events leading up to the murders through the lens of a searing, all-female rock musical. Fueled by rage, trauma, and the desire for freedom, Lizzie’s story becomes one of defiance and transformation.
Based on the historical record and steeped in gothic intensity, LIZZIE by Steven Cheslik-DeMeyer, Tim Maner, & Alan Stevens Hewitt, peels back the genteel façade of Victorian society to explore a young woman’s descent — or ascent — into legend. Following her controversial trial and ultimate acquittal, Lizzie Borden emerges not just as a suspect, but as a symbol of rebellion, mystery, and myth in the American imagination.
This show is Rated R for language and adult themes.

WHAT WE DO
Big Lake Theatre Company specializes in small-scale musicals performed in non-traditional spaces. We work to bring live performance out into the community in unexpected places like breweries, libraries, galleries, and restaurants. By scaling down to small casts with limited sets, we get to the heart of the story and focus on quality performance.
Big lake, small stage.

ABOUT OUR VENUES
This is the fun part! BLTC does not perform in the same space for every show, but our venue always fits the vibe. Whether it's a bookstore, brewery, bar, church, restaurant, library, or gallery - Big Lake makes sure the space is a part of the story. In June 2025, we performed at Ore Dock Brewing in downtown Marquette. Why Ore Dock? For Bonnie & Clyde we presented a speakeasy vibe at a classic Marquette venue. Next up is The Honorable Distillery, also in downtown Marquette. This location brings the glamour and grit that we need this October to produce LIZZIE, a musical about famous (alleged) axe murderer, Lizzie Borden!
